In 2003 The Voice of the Martyrs (Canada), The Voice of the Martyrs (United States) and Oklahoma Wesleyan University launched an unprecedented partnership called the Institute of Persecuted Church Studies, combining rigorous academic study, research and service to focus on the persecuted Christian church in restricted nations. In tandem with VOM, Oklahoma Wesleyan University offers the only undergraduate degree program in North America dedicated to the experience and theology of the persecuted church. |

In August 2004, this unique program of persecuted church studies resumed with a slightly different twist from its first year. "One of the things we wanted to do differently this year," says Glenn Penner, Director of the Institute of Persecuted Church Studies, "was to make the courses more accessible to those who may not want to move to OWU's campus in Bartlesville for full-time studies, but who might be prepared to invest three evenings a month to learn more about the Persecuted Church. To that end, starting in the fall of 2004, two of the three courses on persecuted church studies offered at OWU were taught intensively for three evenings a month over four months. We hope that by adopting this modular approach that we will be able to attract those within driving distance of Bartlesville, as well as those from other parts of the States who might be prepared to come in once a month for part-time study. Our target audience really is the mature student or mission staff with an interest or desire to be more effective in their present ministry." Upcoming Courses Starting in the spring/summer of 2005, The Institute of Persecuted Church Studies will also be offering intensive modular courses lasting between one and two weeks. The foundational course, "Theology of Persecution and Discipleship" will be offered from June 6-17 at Oklahoma Wesleyan University. Taught by Glenn Penner, this course provides the biblical foundations for a biblical understanding of persecution in the context of Christian discipleship.
