Kuwait is the only gulf nation to hold legislative elections, but the real power has been held by the al-Sabath family for the last two centuries. Nevertheless, the legislature has been able to exercise power enough to force the resignation of cabinet ministers and impose some legislation over the objections of the royal family.

Sunni Islam is the state religion. Christians make up approximately five percent of the population and are free to work and live in Kuwait. Since the Gulf War, some of the strict religious rules have been loosened, but there is no true freedom of religion.

Christians are able to generally worship freely within the physical confines of the Christian community. Public gatherings elsewhere are restricted and evangelizing Kuwaitis is forbidden. Only Muslims may become citizens and those who claim to be Muslims are given financial incentives, discouraging people from becoming Christians.

• Pray for ministry opportunities for the churches in Kuwait.
• Pray for continued reforms within the government, allowing more freedom for the people.
